FAQ

What is FASTR?
FASTR is an inclusive consortium that is working to collaboratively produce the actionable applied and theoretical research deliverables that the automotive ecosystem needs today in order to systematically coordinate cybersecurity across the entire supply chain. This is key to helping automakers reduce risks and liabilities, foster trust in autonomous vehicles of the future, and accelerate the safety and quality-of-life benefits that these vehicles promise.

When was FASTR formed?
The formation of FASTR began in fall 2015 and it was officially incorporated as an industry organization on April 21, 2016. FASTR—Future of Automotive Security Technology Research—was founded by Aeris, Intel and Uber in 2016 and was formerly known as the “Automotive Security Review Board.”

Why did FASTR form?
Autonomy is a leading use case for the connected vehicle of tomorrow, and it has the promise of being one of the most important safety mechanisms the world has ever built. Autonomy and security go hand in hand, however; only as much autonomy will be deployed as exists trust in the security in and around the car. FASTR seeks to enable innovation in automotive security by delivering the actionable applied and theoretical research that is needed now to drive systematic coordination of cybersecurity across the entire supply chain. FASTR provides a neutral, pre-competitive, open environment through which the expanding automotive ecosystem can proactively collaborate within a system-of-systems perspective on automotive security.
